The Sky is Burning

The Sky is Burning

Caught this gem a few nights ago. Some of you know of my affinity for sunsets. I find them quite awe inspiring and dusk is my favorite time of day.

Please check out the photo section for more photos.

We are working hard to prepare the boat to go south and waiting around for various packages to arrive at the Yacht Club

After our first day of sailing...

After our first day of sailing...

A couple of days ago Matt and I met Richard in Punta del Este, Uruguay, also know as the Monte Carlo of South America. After a brief introduction to the boat, a couple of repairs and a dinner of fresh steak and beers, we set sail for Montevideo.

The weather was perfect and it gave both Matt and I the opportunity to get to know the boat in ideal conditions. We even caught a fish and five minutes later we were eating fresh sushi… Life doesn’t get better than that…

Currently, we are working on the boat doing some maintenance. We will be here in Montevideo for the next 10 days to 2 weeks. The yacht club here is 103 years old and is home to some very nice smaller pleasure sailing boats. The people are incredibly friendly.

I am trying to prepare a travel map where everyone can follow the progress of the boat. If anyone has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it!! In the meantime, you can visit Richard’s blog and click on the map on the right hand side of the page to see where we are.

The Beginning of a New Adventure

•October 8, 2009 • 4 Comments

At the beginning of a new adventure there is always a feeling of uncertainty; that might be the reason I enjoy seeking adventure as much as I do. You never know what might be around the next corner…

Unfortunately, my adventure plans this summer did not come to fruition, however with every failure comes a new opportunity.

Currently, I am in Buenos Aires, sitting in a pub, sipping a beer and trying to figure out whether I want to write a BLOG… I am extremely anti-blog… I do not want to embellish my life or brag about the things that I have done, am doing or will do in the future. A very good friend of mine convinced me that I needed to share this experience with others… So here you go…

On Sunday, four guys from different walks of life and geographic locations in the world will meet to plan and implement a sailing adventure to the “Last Continent” on earth; Antarctica. We will start by sailing south to the tip of South America. In January we will shove off to Antarctica for a month and by March our goal is to arrive in Capetown, South Africa unscathed, battered, wind burned and smiling from ear to ear.

Hopefully, I can share these experiences with you all… Please stay tuned for pictures and anecdotes…

In the meantime, please check out the boat owners blog regarding Issuma, our vessel…
